As from April 2007, the Authority has a duty placed upon it to:

• Promote equality of opportunity between men and women;
• Eliminate unlawful discrimination;
• Eliminate harassment;

There is also a series of specific duties, the main one requiring the Authority to prepare and publish a Gender Equality Scheme showing how it will meet its general and specific duties. The Authority's Scheme and Action Plan, along with other appendices are attached below.

Both the Scheme and the Action Plan are considered to be 'living' documents. This means that they can be updated at any time to properly reflect changing circumstances.
