From the Chair of Wiltshire Police Authority, Christopher Hoare: "You may be aware that The Policing Pledge is a new set of principles being adopted by all police forces in England and Wales aimed at ensuring that the police service performs to nationally agreed standards in those areas which the public say matter most to them - such as response times, being kept informed and police presence. Wiltshire Police has been quick to adopt the new Policing Pledge, incorporating it in their own 'LISTEN' campaign which complements the Pledge in the way it commits the Wiltshire force to building and maintaining public confidence and satisfaction. Wiltshire Police Authority is equally committed to the values and principles embodied in the Policing Pledge. It is our role, on behalf of the people of Wiltshire, to see to it that your police force lives up to the promises they have made to you as part of the Pledge. We will fulfil this role through our ongoing monitoring, scrutiny and oversight of the force. This is principally achieved through the work of our specialist committees which meet regularly with the force to assess progress and agree actions where required. All Wiltshire Police Authority's committee meetings are held in public - as is the full Authority meeting - and you are welcome to become involved by attending any of these meetings. Our meetings are held on a quarterly cycle and you can see when and where they are scheduled by looking at the Meetings Page on this website. Both our Performance Committee and our Consultation and Public Focus Committee are likely to be the most directly involved in assessing Wiltshire Police against its promises in the Policing Pledge and progress will be published throughout the year on this website. To engage even more directly with our communities, and as part of the Policing Pledge, Wiltshire Police aims to arrange monthly public meetings near where you live to give you a chance to meet your local policing team and agree local priorities. You can find details for your area by visiting www.wiltshire.police.uk and clicking on 'Policing in Your Area'. The Policing Pledge by Wiltshire Police is a significant development in providing what you have said you want from your police and marks another step towards achieving our joint vision to make Wiltshire the Safest County in the Country."
