Wiltshire Police Authority Members
Code of Conduct
The conduct and behaviour of members of the Wiltshire Police Authority is governed by a code of conduct. Such codes of conduct reflect the government’s commitment to achieving consistently high standards of personal conduct in all areas of public life.
Members of the Authority have to give a written undertaking to observe the code and they are also required to disclose their personal interests, eg occupation, property ownership, membership of clubs etc. A register of these interests is retained by the Chief Executive to the Police Authority and is open to public inspection at the Authority’s offices located at Police HQ, London Road, Devizes. Members have a duty to keep their interests under review and notify the Chief Executive of any changes.
The Authority’s Standards Committee is responsible for promoting and maintaining high standards of conduct, arranging training for members and keeping the code under review. The Committee meets three to four times a year and these are open to the public.
From 8 May 2008 the responsibility for considering complaints that a member may have breached the Code of Conduct passes to Standards Committees. After 8 May 2008 if you want to complain about the conduct of a member of Wiltshire Police Authority, you must submit your complaint to the Chief Executive, Wiltshire Police Authority, P.O. Box 847, Devizes, Wiltshire SN10 2RD.
The Standards Committee can only deal with complaints about the behaviour of a member. It will not deal with complaints about things not covered by the members’ Code of Conduct. If you make a complaint to the Standards Committee it must be about why you think a member has not followed the Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct for members is available for inspection by the public during normal office hours at Police Headquarters, London Road, Devizes, Wiltshire.
